Veolia Víz has been responsible for the technical management of Szeged Waterworks since 1994 with a 49% ownership stake. Szeged Waterworks supplies drinking water, collects wastewater and rainwater, and operates the water utility facilities in the administrative area of Szeged and Algyő.
In 1997, after winning an international project, the consortium of Veolia Víz and Berlinwasser purchased 25% of the shares of Budapest Sewage Works from the Municipality of Budapest. The company is the largest environmental protection service provider in Hungary, and its most important activity is the collection and treatment of rainwater and wastewater, as well as the operation of the flood and excess water defence system of Budapest. Besides Budapest, Budapest Sewage Works also provides services in Nagykovácsi and Budaörs through its subsidiaries.
In 2004 Veolia Víz signed a cooperation agreement and an operational contract with the Municipality of the county town of Salgótarján. The contract involves the right to operate the sewage network and wastewater treatment plant owned by the town and Salgótarján Sewage Works for a period of 20 years. Besides Salgótarján, the company also provides services in Kazár, Mátraszele and Vizslás.
In 2006 Veolia Víz and its largest affiliate in Hungary, Budapest Sewage Works, signed a long-term cooperation agreement with the seven local owner authorities of Érd and Environs Waterworks. In accordance with the contract Veolia Víz and Budapest Sewage Works have purchased a 26% business share in the company carrying out the service in the greater Budapest region. The contract involves the water supply, the sewage collection and treatment- among the others - in Érd, Törökbálint, Tárnok, Diósd, Herceghalom, Sóskút and Pusztazámor.
Bioenergy Europe Ltd. was founded in 2009 by Veolia Víz Ltd. The aim of the company is to contribute to the dissemination of the economic innovative solutions primarily in the field of processing sewage sludge. The company owns the licence of ECRUSOR, which is a kitchen waste processing machine that is able to separate the biodegradable waste from the non-biodegradable waste and can produce such base that is suitable for biogas production.
Veolia Víz Zrt and Budapest Sewage Works are the majority proprietors of AQUAZALA Ltd. since 2010. The core scope of activity is the concessional operation of waterworks and wastewater works owned by the Municipality in the region of Western Hungary.
