Exhibition for Tales around the world

Exhibition of children's drawings

The prize-winning works of the international children's drawing campaign organized by Veolia Environnement in Budapest

For the fourth time in 2007, Veolia Environnement launched its international campaign facilitating the education of environmental awareness for children entitled „Tales around the World - Life Stories of People with Nature". More than 64 thousand children from 25 countries in 5 continents participated in the campaign. The program fits fully into the framework of the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development (2005-2014), and is partnered with UNESCO, the French National Commission for UNESCO and the quai Branly Museum.

The rich collection of the museum helped compiling the teacher's guide and the discovery notebook. With the help of the exhibited objects of the Quai Branly Museum, the children could discover legends, myths, religious rites and habits related to water, earth, fire and air that were of essential importance in the lives of people living on the 5 continents.

In parallel with this, the children had a possibility to engage in some research, in which they searched for examples referring to the relationship between man and nature, as well as natural resources in their own culture. As a result of this research work, children wrote a short story and prepared a mask to demonstrate the importance of the connections between man and nature.

An award ceremony was organised in the Quai Branley Museum, Paris, on 1st, June, 2007. Hungary was represented by Katalin Bökönyi, Ivett Molnár, Krisztián Szilárd and Vivien Varga, the 5 grade pupils of Petőfi Sándor Elementary School in Dorog, who - according to the jury's decision, created the best Hungarian work. They also had the possibility to view their and other children's prize winning works coming from 24 other countries in a 3-dimensional exhibition in Paris.

This is the exhibition that has arrived to Budapest

The exhibition was a great success in Poland and the Czech Republic, which has now finally arrived to Hungary, and will travel further to Slovakia, Romania, Germany, Austria and other European countries to present the message of children and the Earth.

The success of the initiation is proven by the fact that the number of schools participating in the campaign is on the increase. Altogether 4,500 children and altogether 226 schools joined the campaign this year. Veolia Environnement is already working on the next drawing campaign, which will be launched in this present school year.
