In 2005, the Veolia Environnement group, with the support of the French National Commission for UNESCO, initiated an international education campaign entitled "Streamers around the world", the purpose of which was to raise the awareness of children in environmental and health issues.
Classes of school children aged between 9 and 11 designed their own "streamer", in other words a drawing symbolising environmental protection with an attached short written message:
The event organised by the Hungarian
interests of the Veolia Environnement
group was held in the József Attila
Culture House in Dorog at 10:00 on
22 March 2005, World Water Day.
The winning drawing immortalising
the children's message was drawn
onto the streamer by the students
in class 5.b of Eötvös József
Elementary School.
The message on the Hungarian streamer
«
"Winter, spring, summer, autumn, rivers, woods,
»
love my children"
Class 5.b in the Eötvös József Elementary School in Dorog set
out to solve the tasks set for them in the international project
"Streamers around the world" with a great amount of excitement
and interest. Of the many designs we chose the one that best
symbolises the message of our class in connection with the
environment and the protection of health.
Three colours on our streamer are significant. The blue refers to
the importance of air and water. The green symbolises living nature (meadows, forests, woods). The yellow calls attention to light,
the life force of the sunrays.
In the middle of the hexagon we drew the Earth, which is
surrounded by a crowd of children holding hands, so symbolising
the necessity of solidarity for our planet.
We divided the geometric form into four parts and there is a motif
repeated in each of the opposite parts.
The trees and hills symbolise the natural environment, while the
houses symbolise the towns and villages.
The sun shining out from behind the clouds tells of the harmony
between the built and the natural environment.
Finally, we would like to tell of the national colours appearing in the
blue triangle, which also contains a message: we are Hungarians,
the children of a small country in the middle of Europe, who desire
to do something for people to be able to live in a healthy
environment on the Earth.
« "Fire, water, sky and earth and all gods:
love those whom I love!"
(Lőrinc Szabó: Pray for children) »
