Around the World 2009

More than 700 drawings at the "Around the World 2009" environmental drawing competition - The Jövő SC Veolia swimmers gave the awards to the winners

Dániel Gyurta, olympic silver medal winner and world champion, and other great swimmers of Jövő SC Veolia gave the awards to the winners of the "Around the World 2009" drawing competition. The winners could invite their classmates to the award ceremony to celebrate their success together at the House of Future. The event was attended by more than 110 young pupils, who had the opportunity to play with the installations of the Green Point interactive exhibition.

More than 700 students competed in the "Around the World" drawing competition in two main categories. The students could participate individually by the writing of a story and the completion of two drawings. Student workbooks and Teacher handbooks with the focal theme of The Little Prince have been provided to the participants to help the preparation.

A vocational jury of 7 members judged the incoming works. The best works may be viewed on the central homepage of the Around the World project: www.veoliarajzpalyazat.hu.

The competition was rewarded in two categories: 8-9 years old applicants and 10-11 years old applicants. In both categories the first three students and their teachers were rewarded. The prizes were handed over by Dániel Gyurta, Olympic silver medallist and world champion, and his teammates of Jövő SC Veolia swimming club.

The winners of the competition won a bicycle, the second-bests were rewarded by a digital camera, while the students attaining the third place received an explorer set. The classes of the winning students were given a Water box, a mini laboratory that helps students to experiment with and learn more about water, and their teachers received book vouchers in the value of 15.000 HUF.

The best applications and the drawings attaining the most votes online were exhibited in the award ceremony on 20 November, 2009 in the House of Future at the Millennium Park.

After the award ceremony, the participating children - 111 altogether - had the opportunity to view the Green Point interactive exhibition in the name of environment protection. The exhibition was based on the four fundamental elements, of which the water section was sponsored by the two main organisers Veolia Víz and Budapest Sewage Works that supported it with the total of 9,7 M HUF.

The environment protection drawing competition is a Veolia Environnement initiation, which was organised by the company's local affiliates in Hungary, including Veolia Víz, Budapest Sewage Works and Dalkia Energia. This was the sixth international campaign to raise awareness among children of protection of the environment and health. Every day, through our choices and actions, we take decisions which have an impact on the environment. The objective of the "Around the World 2009" program was to raise awareness among young people of the balances which govern our planet and the dangers which threaten it.
