Veolia Environnement offers environmental management services to its customers: municipalities, industrial and commercial enterprises, as well as private citizens all over the world in its four divisions (Veolia Water - water utility services, Veolia Environmental Services - waste management, Veolia Energy - energy services, Veolia Transport - public transportation).
Environmental protection
Veolia Environnement and its cooperating partners always focus on their commitment to sustainable development and protecting the values of the environment.
More than a billion human beings today lack access to potable water; any approach to the sustainable development of water resources must therefore begin with an analysis of our quantitative as well as qualitative contributions to progress in this area. We then need to examine the impact of our conservation efforts that aim to optimise consumption by companies and residents, and to prevent water resources from becoming polluted.
Veolia Environnement's most important subsidiary, Veolia Water focuses on environment protection in Hungary, too:
- The upgrading and expansion of wastewater treatment plants has been the most considerable result of Veolia Water's subsidiaries (Budapest Sewage Works Ltd. and Szeged Waterworks Ltd.) in the past few years.
- The pace of development of the sewage network has doubled in Budapest since Veolia Water became involved in the projects.
- In Szeged, losses of water due to leaking have been considerably reduced through continuous monitoring of the network and pipe breakages have also been reduced to a fraction of what they use to be, which contributes to a higher quality of life of the residents.
- The wastewater treatment plant operated by Salgótarján Sewage Works Ltd. uses the most up-to-date control technology and it is the only plant in the country to use UV disinfection technology, in this way complying with the strictest EU requirements.
